IGTV for business

What is IGTV and should your business consider yet another social media platform?

Instagram launched IGTV leaving business marketers asking – what is IGTV and should we consider yet another social media platform? In addition to the purposes of entertainment, companies can also take advantage. In this article, you will learn what it is and some more information about this pretty useful tool.

What is IGTV?

For starters, IGTV is an enhancement to the original Instagram application. In its second generation, the Instagram feed gave rise to Stories, which are short publications and remain in the air for 24 hours.

Now, Instagram TV is more of a content channel within Instagram. At the top of the application, you will see the IGTV symbol (in the form of a television) where you will enter the feed of vertical and longer videos.

Why did Instagram Launch this Application?

The launch of the new Instagram offering makes sense when you follow the numbers. Cisco predicts that by 2021, video will make up 78% of all mobile data traffic.

While YouTube is currently the leading video platform, that doesn’t mean that other channels can’t leverage video content. Therefore, opening another consumption channel of that format, with longer videos than the traditional 60 seconds, is a big step for Instagram to have more audience and more content producers.

How can Instagram TV be Used?

If you only want to consume the IGTV content, you can use the button quoted above the Instagram application itself (the television symbol). If you’re going to have a channel on IGTV, as you have on YouTube, you will need to download the available application for iOS or Android and create your channel.

New Terrain

When resources like this come out, it’s always good to get inside to understand where and how you may be able to position yourself inside the new environment. If you intento be a content creator, the sooner you must understand IGTV, the better you will be able to stand out.

At the time of this article, the platform is still a land grab, however success can greatly depend on your existing presence on Instagram.

 Where do I Start?

As mentioned before, the first thing to do is to get into the environment and study. See what the first channels are doing, especially if your peer companies are aleady active.

Next, think about how you can explore the IGTV resources for your business. If you already use YouTube, the logic is very similar: look for retention in your videos to be suggested when users enter IGTV.

The most important thing is to have a strategy and make sure you stay on top of the nuances of the platform.

New Content Formats and Strategies

A longer vertical video on Instagram makes it even easier to get closer to your audience and be discovered by new audience. You can create stronger connections with potential customers while displaying all the dimensions of your business without being limited to one type of content.

As with the stories, IGTV is based on Instagram taking advantage of a global community of more than 800 million people. When your followers open IGTV, they will instantly see original content from you, and new people will also be able to discover your brand.

Therefore IGTV is an excellent opportunity for companies to highlight their products, services, and best showcase their true personality.

Taking advantage of the social media for your business is something everyone should research, frequently. It can be beneficial as you need to keep up with the quickly changing social media-driven world.
